AI-Powered Motorcycle Maintenance – Fixing My Bike with the Help of a Virtual Mechanic

AI-Powered Motorcycle Maintenance – Fixing My Bike with the Help of a Virtual Mechanic

In this video, I’m sharing a fun way I’ve started using AI—specifically ChatGPT—as my own personal assistant in the garage. From checking tire wear and chain slack to finding specific torque settings and tracking maintenance history, AI is making my bike maintenance easier and way more interactive!

After uploading all my bike manuals, service records, and part lists into ChatGPT, I now have a quick reference for anything I need while working on my bike. Whether it’s checking oil specs, remembering past upgrades, or even asking for torque values, I get answers right away without having to flip through endless pages of manuals.

🚀 Key Features:

– Quick access to maintenance info on both desktop and mobile
– Track parts, wear-and-tear, and routine maintenance reminders
– Helpful torque values, chain slack guidance, and more
– Conversation mode for hands-free help in the garage
– AI isn’t just for big tech tasks; it’s a practical helper in my day-to-day bike work! Plus, it’s fun to interact with, adding a bit of a “garage buddy” experience while I’m wrenching away. Watch along, and see how you can set up an AI assistant for your own projects.

Haha, great advises there Rob! Amazed by how powerful this is and thanks for the tips with uploading the manual and bike genealogy/maintenance history. I got myself a lifetime subscription on ChatGPT around yearshift, not used it as much that i should or learn useful use case like this. Great work Rob and I ofc allready know that You are King and early adopter on the AI for everyday use. I’m inspired! Now another question, I see that very nice Throwel (Travel shit showel) on your tool set board. Have you got the privilege to use it in a sharp situation yet? 👀😅 Otherwise, I suggest we go on a ADV trip again!

I am also using AI to maintain my bike … thing is… it ended up in a rant that my GS is a shitty bike and that I better get rid of my warning vest. Never thaught that AI could be such a bi….

So it’s forseeable that within the next years it will be integrated in the DMD 2 Software. And after that your can upload a route to your device and the bike does all the riding and filming on it’s own while you can sit in a comfy chair at home and have a nice beer. 🤗

AI playing to be your all-knowing companion, how funny. Thanks for your video, Robert. Günter/Nürnberg

  7. @007mat on January 31, 2025 at 3:23 pm

You recently mentioned you’re a geek or nerd for tracking your maintenance and so. Yeah, unfortunately, I’m that way, too! Also a techie guy. 🙈
So, I copied your idea. It´s really cool!
I would recommend a verification method, especially when it comes to torque specifications. Correct answers have been verified by me after review, and this can be expanded over time.

    Thanks, great video!

  8. @guillaume05ch on January 31, 2025 at 3:25 pm

You should make a video where you ask her which bike you should get next :’D

Tudo bem Robert? You have to wonder if uploading copyrighted material is a breach of copyright. Plus once you upload your personal information it is there for the rest of the world to access or maybe referenced as you have authorised the gpt provider to own your information. Glad I will be dead in 20-30 years as those generation will know all, but nothing at the same time.

  23. @GibbAsp on January 31, 2025 at 3:42 pm

I tried asking service settings (torque, how to set cam timing etc.) on MS edge copilot. It was 100% accurate do far.

  24. @johulv on January 31, 2025 at 3:43 pm

  26. @samhill3496 on January 31, 2025 at 3:45 pm

Well hell Robert. I guess Miss AI will be sitting in during the next live chat with Mattais and TS for a back up resource answer check. Maybe pour a drink or order food. All good. That can be damn helpful in the middle of nowhere broken down. What about adding resource links for parts suppliers and shipping contacts in far away places. Let’s say you’re stuck in bumfckEgypt with a broken bike. Could AI contact reliable suppliers and shippers with a time frame? All good from east Kentucky USA. Liked the vid. 1st I’ve heard of ChatGPT. Of course your’re the most geek person I communicate with. I’ll check it out.

  27. @magnusb6311 on January 31, 2025 at 3:45 pm

Really good video Robert.. Everyone interested in knowing their motorcycle should learn from this perfect example from you Robert.
It was a bit funny to.
    Cheers from Falbôgda

That’s cool. I often use ChatGPT to help me write Bash scripts in Linux. There are so many useful ways to take advantage of AI

  29. @bjjohnston3196 on January 31, 2025 at 3:49 pm

    Thats cool i hate reading.

If they can update my Meta glasses enough, maybe I can just look at the chain slack and have ChatGPT tell me if it’s correct! 🙂

  39. @RichardHastings-n7n on January 31, 2025 at 4:04 pm

Hi. I think this video on AI assistant is very interesting. Do you still have to update your service diary with date and milage you have completed the work eg changed tyres or does the AI remeber this?

  40. @FirstClassBrian on January 31, 2025 at 4:05 pm

Robert, fascinating technology, however you may need to update some critical data; like the type of wine your wife likes.

  41. @mariovdb3001 on January 31, 2025 at 4:07 pm

  48. @yngvehafting6828 on January 31, 2025 at 4:11 pm

Just know that the GPT is always bullshitting you. ALWAYS. Like a lot of ppl dont know the difference between newtonmeters and nanometers, which is just ridiculous when you hear it being read with the confidence of the AI. Things that the general population gets wrong will likely be spit out wrong with the AI too. In some cases it might not be an immediate threat, but it contributes to spreading misinformation that can lead to disasters further down the road.

I think the real marked for AI is when we have the AI trained for motorcycles is trained only by data made by motorcycle professionals and not the general public. GPT knows "nm" is an abbreviation for nanometers (length), but it would never suggest this if you used an AI trained on motorcycle specific content where we use "Nm" for Newton meter (torque). Mixing these isnt a biggie as long as you use the correct number for your measurment, but the AI does not care if it gives wrong information, so if you are not able to check the information is useless. Also when ppl accept the sloppyness of general AI, their manifestation of misinterpretations only strengthen by each use.

  49. @s-code-b on January 31, 2025 at 4:11 pm

Very useful /practical demo, and not only for motos but for all sorts of other life concerns. You should be given favors for showing so many people the usefulness/practicality of that new tool from that one company.

  50. @jay26cee on January 31, 2025 at 4:12 pm

Personally, I would not encourage the use of AI. People are becoming so lazy or reliant on technology it is to the detriment of us all. I know so many who ‘can find their way out of a paper bag without satnav’ because they have got so lazy to even pay attention to where they are going. Also, ChatGPT is so stupid it thinks NM for torque is nanometers!! LMAO
