Slick vs Knobby tires | What are the right tires for your ebike?

With all the tire options out there, what kind should you put on your ebike?
Let’s compare slick tires vs knobby tires in this video and get an answer!

I was sent a pair of Kenda 20×4-1/4 slick tires for testing from Mihogo. Since I use my Mihogo NX ebike on a lot of asphalt and paved roads, Mihogo thought it might be cool to do a comparison between the stock knobby tires and these new slick tires. Are the slicks more quiet? How was the feel of the ride with these tires? Check out this video for my results!

what about on wet roads slick vs. nubby tires if you hit some dirt or something around
a corner you can slip which ones are better

  2. @ScottBrian-hz1ms on January 31, 2025 at 6:05 pm

Have had now 3 ebikes. Getting better and faster each time. All had nobby off road type tires. In my only 3k mile experience there is not a made for off road bike. Anyways, only ride street, too and from work. Never new how loud my tires actually were till I decided to get street tires. WOW, ride difference, sound, battery, everything.
Only down fault is you feal every pebble in the road. Battery good for 10-20 percent more on long hauls. Love them so far. Recommend tire liner and tube seal on all fat tires

Have I been pronouncing asphalt wrong all my life

How long did it take to get the mihogo bike delivered to your home?

  5. @PriestessCrystal on January 31, 2025 at 6:10 pm

The mountain tire is better in my opinion. It grips better and can handle wet ground. The ā€œcarā€ tires look to me as though there may be issues down the road. Iā€™m in NYC so Iā€™ll be stopping by Mr Cā€™s Cycle for all my tire gears and repairs if necessary.

knoby or not i see i lots of people riding ebike with not enough air in the back tire. PUMP IT up and you must save a lots of riding time on one battery

  9. @JustDoItPlus on January 31, 2025 at 6:14 pm

Review for tires without a link for them and not even tire names? Kenda has 1000000 different models…

  10. @tenncutt on January 31, 2025 at 6:15 pm

You have your front forks locked out? At around 5 minutes in it looks like it. Good video

  11. @SlingerFinger on January 31, 2025 at 6:15 pm

I was getting 35 miles on knobs. Only getting 20 out of slicks. Heavy tire drags the bike and motor down. Top speed was 25 on knobs. Only getting 16 on slicks. Slicks would be great on bikes that go over 25 and have street power. These rads will never go fast enough for you to recognize the benefits of slick tread. Going back to knob

I think the knobby tires wear out too fast I’m going to get the regular tread ones next time

i changed from knobby to street and its much better
quiet and more grip (mainly used on street)

  16. @Joe-pb3lx on January 31, 2025 at 6:22 pm

    I think it’s pronounced Asphalt

  17. @6igPP on January 31, 2025 at 6:23 pm

Where you bought the slick tires?

  18. @richardwebb3013 on January 31, 2025 at 6:24 pm

Can you do a video on Tannus or Cushcore inserts and whether their rotational mass depletes more battery and cuts down range?

  19. @Saddletramp1200 on January 31, 2025 at 6:26 pm

Hi, You wear glasses & have a Baid head so you must be very smart. Just messin with ya. I am convinced that dogs don’t like the sound that knobby tires make. Been riding 60 years. Had to shoot a dog that was trying to hurt me. Looking for better street tires. Something that will last. BFT has held up well but noisy.

  20. @tedwalker1370 on January 31, 2025 at 6:27 pm

I just ran my knobby tires till they became almost slick. They work great for pavement riding. Had about 4500 miles before they got that way but I like the way they are now. I still get to run softer air ride too.

  21. @freedomfighter4830 on January 31, 2025 at 6:30 pm

    Combi is cool too

  22. @kevinoxley5898 on January 31, 2025 at 6:32 pm

What is the top speed with the street tires? Do they handle better on the road?

  23. @alansigglekow on January 31, 2025 at 6:34 pm

THE KEY ISSUE IN THIS YOUTUBE WAS NOT ADDRESSED, THE KNOBLY TIRE MAKE S MORE NOISE BECAUSE IT HAS MORE DRAG USING UP MORE BATTERIE POWER , SO BY NOT SEEING A RANGE TEST BETWEEN THE TWO TIRE S ,MAKE S YOU TUBE SOME WHAT POINTLESS ,ONE WOULD EXPECT OFF ROAD TIRE TO PERFORM BETTER OFF ROAD THAN A ROAD TIRE .WITHOUT TESTING THE TIRE S.

  24. @MZRFaith on January 31, 2025 at 6:36 pm

I’ve gotten two flats in 300 miles on my street tire style tires ( ride swift bmx) definitely excited to try out some crown gem mpgs šŸ’™

  26. @amped19996 on January 31, 2025 at 6:36 pm

Slick for more range and speed, knobby for more gripping offroad.

  27. @EduardMazrreku on January 31, 2025 at 6:37 pm

Yes Slick is better looks more nicer .. but only for a Town ride and road ofcourse not for Forest šŸ˜…

  28. @romenigld on January 31, 2025 at 6:42 pm

It would be nice to test on a rain days…

  29. @jojodancer1961 on January 31, 2025 at 6:42 pm

Yes if you like knobby tires be prepared to replace them every few months , I’m @ 240lbs. and found my tires were needing replaced about every 3 months because my bike is my only transport and on average $70-$80 was too expensive for me , cutting costs was why I decided to only ebike in the 1st place . I’ve been using a set of Chao Yang street tires that I picked up on ebay for about $50 a piece and have over 3000 miles on them , glad I went ahead and bought a 2nd set before they ran out .

  30. @flolou8496 on January 31, 2025 at 6:42 pm

You seem to have wisdom regarding Ebike tires, so one big concern I have about Ebike Fat Tires is the treadlife seems really short in many cases. I really don’t like the idea
of having to change the tires because the treads are wearing out after less than 1000 miles. Most likely the Ebike Im going to choose won’t have puncture resistant tires
anyway, so I was thinking about the perfect Ebike tire and I think that would be a tire with above average treadelife (from long city commuting on paved streets) and be either tubeless
(which is almost non existant in Fat tire form) or comes with a puncture resistant innertube: (any thoughts anyone on my comment) ?

How can I become a ebike reviewer?

  32. @arminv8169 on January 31, 2025 at 6:48 pm

My bike uses knobby tires 20×4. Never had a flat in 3500 miles. Brand CST but I have to change them the lifetime is out

I’D LIKE TO KNOW IF THE SLICK TIRES WOULD IMPROVE BATTERY LIFE AND BY HOW MUCH

  36. @Barefoot-Bob on January 31, 2025 at 6:51 pm

dude its not ASHphalt it is asphalt as in ass– fault

  37. @stiqman on January 31, 2025 at 6:51 pm

i love the idea of changing the tires depending on the season. but lets be honest if you could only afford one set. it HAS to be the knobbies. more versatility.

  38. @nismonissan87 on January 31, 2025 at 6:51 pm

You should try tannus armour will give more cushion on bumps

  39. @ronh5623 on January 31, 2025 at 6:52 pm

The major issue I found using slick type tires is you have to watch out for any loose sand or gravel in cornering at certain speeds, the bike can slide right from under you. I prefer knobbies. šŸ˜

  40. @mattameta on January 31, 2025 at 6:52 pm

Is accelerating affected on asphalt between the two tyres ?

  41. @matthewfinateri2311 on January 31, 2025 at 6:55 pm

Thanks for the helpful info. I just purchased a new e-bike with slick tires and had some concerns. PS. Iā€™m in love with the orange 3-spoke wheels on this bike. Bad ass.

Moral of the story, stay with what you have and stop worrying and spending stupid money.

  45. @SirWrecksy on January 31, 2025 at 6:58 pm

Well that is quite the conundrum isn’t it?.
So wait big fat knobs on your tires might slow you down and the slick ones with treads might go faster
Unsure of the data. I must consult my physics -minded friends to confirm… quite the mystery

  46. @tenncutt on January 31, 2025 at 7:00 pm

Where can I buy these tires? I cant seem to locate them? What model Kenda are they?

  47. @ErnestLloyd716 on January 31, 2025 at 7:01 pm

Do you find the slick road tires give you more distance per battery charge as compared to the off-road tires?

  48. @bobhartwell3262 on January 31, 2025 at 7:02 pm

i wish i could get them for my full size fat bike. 26 inch. if you know wher to get them please drop me a link, thanks. i have looked but there are so many, and all nobbys

  49. @theresejames8826 on January 31, 2025 at 7:02 pm

I ride in the street that’s why I brought lectric xpress with street tires. 2 inch wide road tire is the better than those fat knobby tires for riding in the streets.
