I’ve been bike-commuting across Kansas City (big hills) for 5 yrs now on a Rover! I upgraded the geared hub-motor, controller, & display after 10K miles. Go to Bolton e-bikes for the electrical parts. I am 58 now, 6’2”, 220 lbs…. I would suggest the Rover for any terrain but ice! As long as there is a packed snow on top of the ice, you’re good to go! All other terrains are no problem! I do carry a spare battery for long hauls. The Rover’s higher clearance will help on woodlands, as will the suspension forks & larger tires! Here is a fun idea an all electric rail rider bike for a possible bug out option. Fast to convert between normal and rail riding when setup for it so able to ride to the nearest rails and then convert to ride on the rails with an outrigger to keep the spacing between rails and some skateboard wheels to lock the steering and keep you centered

Thanks for the review, and so much that you offer. Since you’ve had it 8 months, and you seem to be a bit rural, do you have any concern about when it comes time for scheduled maintenance? They list that on their site. I am 2+ hours from any large city. Have you perhaps concluded that you can do all that needs to be done? Or will you just take it in when the time comes, however far away it may be?
Can you put the eco flow in the basket and charge while you ride to get more distance?

I ordered a couple of RadRovers a month ago. Mine is arriving tomorrow. The wife’s step thru is still a month out. Very high demand since the pandemic, so expect bikes to be back ordered for a while. I have a 1KW solar setup on the house. My office and workshop are off grid. The bikes will also benefit from solar charging. Sounds like you need to order one for yourself, your son has customized that one to declare it his!
Ah…. we’ve been using our e bikes in Guangxi, China for the last 15 years.
They’re fantastic… Nanning City is similar to NYC in size and it’s an inexpensive form of transportation; millions of bikes moving around daily!
About 5 years ago, shocks were added to larger ebikes …

Yes, we still walk between 8-10 km and climb 50+ flights of stairs each day, at 65yo.
Taking the electric/lpn bus, subway, or taxi will cost ~ 25 cents to go across the city.
On longer drives into the countryside, we take our new SUV, high speed train or airplanes. Buses are still in use like greyhound.
I’m here until fall playing with my granddaughter then, we will possibly return to our NC farm.

Do you know of Barefoot Motors? They made electric quads for a while, then went out of business. You may still be able to snag one used at a good price. Having had a good experience with an electric bike, you’re ready for something with more power and heft to it. BM electric quads were originally intended for use on farms in fact. Failing that, there’s always the electric Polaris, which is like your golf cart but designed from the get-go to offroad and tow loads

Putting a Bafang bbs01 350w on a 2013 GT Zaskar 100 9r full suspension XC (full carbon fiber) was the best thing I’ve done. 17kg in total with Tesla 360wh batteries (21700 cells). Mine you, I did spec out the bike with top end components. Rockshox SID carbon suspension, Shimano XT parts, and carbon wherever possible. Light, agile, comfortable, and I can still ride back with a depleted battery! Won’t hurt carrying another battery pack. Loving it!

Why you only get 20 miles n you use pedal assist n Elijah gets 40 n he doesn’t use pedal assist much?
I know three people who own a RAD bike and they all love their bikes. I recently was introduced to an e-Cell bike that has two 500 watt motors and two battery packs with wide tread tires and it appears to be as awesome as the RAD bikes.

Surely you realize that when the bike is being used during the day, it cannot be sitting around getting charged (during peak sun availability), so that you would need a certain number of hours when the bike is unusable. You don’t seem to be willing to consider that fact. Just trying to think practically. As effective and eye catching as the Fat tires may be, they also provide a certain amount of drag and resistance in being forced down the path, where a more normal tire would have less friction/resistance.
Looks like there is no equality for us fat people. Skinny guy gets 40 miles, fat guy gets 20 miles, fat guy with trailer gets 10 miles. Half all numbers for round trip range.
If we take a average speed of 10 mph that’s 1-4 hours of riding time. I guess that’s not bad if we simply consider it a technological advancement.
I’ll be interested when the fat guy gets a 100 mile range out of it. At that point it’s roughly equal to what a average human should be able to do in a day (10 hours of riding) without the motor.
