Walmart Vs. Pro Tool Kit—Can They Both Fix Bikes?

Walmart Vs. Pro Tool Kit—Can They Both Fix Bikes?

Today we’re going to look at a very capable $350 Mountain Bike Tool Kit made by Feedback Sports, and compare it to a $30 Repair kit sold at Walmart. This is by no means an apples to apples comparison, but it’s still interesting. What mountain bike repairs could we expect each of these to be capable of? What is the quality difference? Today we’re going to test them out and see.

Very interesting to have found the Joshua Bardwell of mountain biking. I could watch both of y’all’s stuff forever.

You should do a video on your top 10 favorite bikes

I’m finding it tough to justify spending $350 on a tool kit for a hobby I’m just starting out with. On the other hand, I’ve spent $400 on a drill kit for work without any regrets. Bike repair is new territory for me, and not having the right tools is a big setback when trying to figure out what I need. In my experience, better tools often make the work easier and more enjoyable. I guess I’m trying to convince myself that it’s worth investing a few more hundred dollars into this hobby! Thanks for breaking down what comes with each kit.

I somehow found the feedback kit on sale for $109 about 4 years ago, I almost didn’t buy it cause it felt expensive and I’d just finished school – I’m glad I bought it anyway, it is my primary tool kit at home, and I toss it in the car on road trips. Only tools I’ve added/swapped is the cable cutter, parallel jaw pliers, and a utility knife

  6. @Vixterex on February 1, 2025 at 3:25 pm

    I’m buying a new bike
Like a completely brand new bike, and what are some tips, or things to do with a new bike?
The only thing I’m thinking of right now is to buy chain guard to not scratch the frame, but it’s all I can think of… what would you recommend?

  7. @matthewhott5085 on February 1, 2025 at 3:26 pm

I have that tool kit and it works grate

  8. @Shuturulsdad on February 1, 2025 at 3:26 pm

As a career automotive tech who has used harbor freight tools and craftsman my entire career… I watch kids go onto the snap-on truck drop 1000s on tools i bought for hundreds, and i still out wrench them. The skill is with the worker, the tools are secondary.

  9. @BraydenCox-gp5zb on February 1, 2025 at 3:29 pm

How much did you spend to get started in mtb im stuck on a broken down handy down dont get me wrong i love it just curios how much it would cost for a new one

  10. @andrewchristiansen8311 on February 1, 2025 at 3:29 pm

Get a giant pair of vice grips from H.F and weld 3 links of chain to either side and adjust accordingly and you have cassette pliers. I ground an old Weimar India 15mm wrench half way until it fit on my cone. Really strong cone wrench, way stronger than those flat pieces of steel. This is for people who dont already have standard tools or a welder.

Seth, you’re amazing. Everytime I’m thinking about something, you make a killer video about it. Life is good !! Aloha bra. 😎🤙

  12. @rockbblues on February 1, 2025 at 3:31 pm

I got the same feedback sports set on clearance from REI for $175. Not sure why it was that price but man has it been a great tool set. What’s more the tools are such a joy to use that it makes actually want to learn how to do more repairs on my own.

Thank you for comparing an Apple to a Rutabaga. 🤷‍♂

  14. @somewhere0verthere on February 1, 2025 at 3:32 pm

I cheap out on the stuff that is easy to make and doesn’t get used too often but when it comes to my daily/weekly use tools and some tools I just don’t like cheap versions of, I fork up the money for. My unior derailleur hanger tool and my wera ratchet set have been some of my best purchases

When will The next tool kit video come out?

  17. @mattl1762 on February 1, 2025 at 3:36 pm

Plus, no one’s going to nick that cheap stuff either. Ok then, less likely.

  18. @Spanderson99 on February 1, 2025 at 3:36 pm

First addition to either of these kits: a 2 foot chunk of pipe that will fit over the end of a wrench. Extra leverage always comes in handy!

  19. @sinisakalicanec6823 on February 1, 2025 at 3:39 pm

This tool costs 275 EUR in Germany and I believe now that there will be sales on Amazon in a few days and Black Friday that it will be another 100 EUR cheaper because this tool, regardless of the fact that it is professional, is not worth more than 200 EUR.But as for comparing those two tools professionally determined by you 👍

  20. @edymarkonthego4096 on February 1, 2025 at 3:40 pm

A budget one is a toolkit of the people.

  21. @dermotsheehan8614 on February 1, 2025 at 3:41 pm

You can buy all the same quality tools in the expensive kit for about €100 all in, it’s very overpriced for what is in it

  22. @VentusHarpus12 on February 1, 2025 at 3:42 pm

The $30 kit came ro my rescue one day… i had to buy some bike tools because something happend to my back and if it wasnt for the $30 kit i would have been f*cked!

  23. @annoyedok321 on February 1, 2025 at 3:44 pm

Looks like my old Nashbar tool kit.

  24. @Monkeyboy-69422 on February 1, 2025 at 3:45 pm

Hi Seth I was looking on the internet for front forks for under $250 any suggestions

  25. @Carsgunsnfishin on February 1, 2025 at 3:45 pm

Seth! Please take the time to do a basic, medium, and advanced cheap tools series. I’d happily spend $500 to not need tools again if I can find em cheap. I always end up spending $120 at the shop if I can’t find some special tool same day or within a week. I was the first one on site to the hidden 360 cam in Dallas and I had my own, that sh*t was awesome!

  26. @twintyara6330 on February 1, 2025 at 3:45 pm

Im still waiting for the video

  27. @tbull1545 on February 1, 2025 at 3:45 pm

yeah its great but its THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS bruh.

  28. @laynewalker8867 on February 1, 2025 at 3:48 pm

I’d love to be able to afford a $350 kit. You get used to working with cheaper stuff. You might cuss at it a lot, but most of the time it gets the job done.

  29. @caramelldansen2204 on February 1, 2025 at 3:50 pm

    😊

  30. @magicalcheerios630 on February 1, 2025 at 3:50 pm

Can’t wait for the one with ALL the other kits! I don’t like to buy the best new stuff or the cheapest possible stuff. Want to be right in the middle where quality and price are min/maxed

  31. @genecura3227 on February 1, 2025 at 3:51 pm

Great info man, love it , I have been a park tool whore for years and have been slowly building up my tools, but I like the idea of having an all in one that I can take out with me, rather than trying to pack it all up. On a side note what’s you take on slime for bike tires (black label)

  32. @fastfiddler1625 on February 1, 2025 at 3:51 pm

I think you just sold me a tool kit lol. I’ve been using my spin doctor set on my old bike for years. It gets the job done and I can do everything I need to do on it. But… The tools it has lack finesse. It’s s blow molded case. Now that I have a new MTB and a new gravel bike, both pretty high end, it’s time for stuff that won’t scuff and scratch them.

  33. @clrlmiller on February 1, 2025 at 3:53 pm

The main purpose to someone getting into their first set of tools is simply to save some $ on fixing your own bike. For that reason alone, kudos to the $30 set. If you’re now a few years into the sport and fixing your more expensive bike(s), then yeah, buy a better kit.

  34. @tvon4966 on February 1, 2025 at 3:57 pm

I picked this up from walmart because it was the only store open that carried a cassette removal tool:), I usually go to the bike shop close by and they let me use theirs, but THIS KIT IS GREAT!

  35. @Biscotticustoms on February 1, 2025 at 3:57 pm

Tools are tools they will get the job done and unless you’re job is being a mechanic most tools will be just fine for the average joe

  36. @Hōkūleà-m5r on February 1, 2025 at 3:59 pm

Can you recommend a basic in expensive bike tool that is no more then $35.00 or less and that are excellent quality. I am on a fixed income and biking is my only transportation.

  37. @n1tr0kt on February 1, 2025 at 3:59 pm

When’s the video comparing all the major brand tool kits coming out? What a tease!
    I love your videos, thanks!

  38. @WafflePlaneRC on February 1, 2025 at 4:01 pm

I only got my first "real" bike recently, and found myself needing the specialty tools to work on it despite having a fairly decent collection of tools for automotive and other hobby type work. The ozark trail kit seemed a decent value, $30 to get me almost everything I would need for basic maintenance, especially the niche items that can’t be subbed in with more generic tools.
For someone like me that only has one bike, or even someone who has two or three bikes, I think a $350 kit from a bike shop brand is hard to justify, in the automotive world that’d be like going into debt at the snap-on or matco truck just to work on your 2005 Camry. The $30 walmart tool set gets the job done well enough. Worthless, it certainly isn’t.

  39. @xpndblhero5170 on February 1, 2025 at 4:02 pm

I lucked out in the tool category because I worked at a local small bike shop, I built and repaired all the wheels, I did maintenance and also built the box bikes or customer ordered bikes but when he closed I got a bunch of stuff from parts super cheap and tools…. I have all the tools I need, as long as I don’t upgrade my bike to new parts then nothing will work. 😂😂

  40. @maxwelltaylor5699 on February 1, 2025 at 4:05 pm

Man, I was quite literally about to search for a video reviewing these when it popped up. Thanks Seth!

  41. @kingsdominion5863 on February 1, 2025 at 4:07 pm

When will he repair or build a raceing cycle I’m waiting for him to do it

  42. @dippitydoinit on February 1, 2025 at 4:07 pm

There has to be a middle ground that would make both kits seem pointless to spend your money on.

  43. @christianrodriguez7478 on February 1, 2025 at 4:07 pm

What do you think about bicycle repair manuals. Im an ocassional ciclist who would like to do some work on my bikes. I do not have mechanical skills at all

  44. @rsxyzs on February 1, 2025 at 4:10 pm

You should try the Carrera Vengeance mtb, it’s about $400 and is very popular in the uk where I live

  45. @darkphotographer on February 1, 2025 at 4:12 pm

having good tools is nice , but 350 , is realy bad value for some one that just fix his bike ,that is the majority of people , just like go and buy 1000$ dress shoes when you wear a suit 1-2 times per year ,

  46. @Whaaaackin on February 1, 2025 at 4:13 pm

This channel shouts “YOU’RE POOR!” to my ear.

  47. @stephenpena7813 on February 1, 2025 at 4:14 pm

the expensive set seems like husky quality with snap on pricing. Don’t get me wrong Husky has some great lasting tools but they don’t bend you over with their pricing. I think there needs to be more legitimate competition to help bring down pricing.

  48. @wg2060 on February 1, 2025 at 4:15 pm

Started my bike tool journey with the Performance bike Spin Doctor tool box years ago. I think $100 or so for just about everything a home mechanic might need. As parts died or I just wanted better quality, Park, Pedro etc crept into the collection.

  49. @exzeroex on February 1, 2025 at 4:16 pm

Is the steel as hard and wear resistant on the Ozark Trail kit though? That’s usually my concern with cheaper tools. Like how cheap pocket knives usually have softer steel that cannot hold an edge through use.

  50. @harrylen1688 on February 1, 2025 at 4:16 pm

I have a very decent Bike and Ozark Kit its fine also for more complicate issues I can always walk to local bike shop to get things done than spend $350 doing the same thing w Ozark!! BTW there is soliid Bike tools for $ 100 or even half compare $ 350 Promotion. Aguess you got to make some money 🙂
